Sunday 31/05/26
Lazy Sunday morning greetings! Hope you’ve been coping in the heatwave. If you missed me mentioning ever before, this neck fan is my single most prized possession when the temps creep above 25 degrees, hard recommend, they usually sell out so get one early, it definitely takes the edge of what could otherwise become a full scale meltdown of discomfort. May has been a lovely month, here are some highlights. Hx
Good things from May . . . .
Thunderstorm Martini’s
Prior to a music talk at the British Library we popped into the elegant Martini Bar at Hawksmoor St Pancras. Soft lamp lighting, the most beautifully ornate ceilings and a thunderstorm rumbling overhead as we sipped ice cold martinis. A joyfully cosy way to toast P’s birthday and hibernate from the rain in the capital, I didn’t want to leave.
Fine fragrance for clothes
As someone who generally sprays perfume onto their clothing instead of their skin already (if you’re wondering why, I recommend watching the documentary Stink!) as soon as I discovered L’eaundry by Unwworn, I felt called to give it a go.
Inspired by salt air, warm cotton and sun on skin, there are top notes of bergamot and ozonic, heart notes of cotton accord, orris and violet leaf and then base notes of white musk, rosewood and sea salt.
With 4% fine fragrance (that’s double the industry standard for fabric sprays) it also helps to remove odour rather than just masking it thanks to antimicrobial actives that target odour-causing bacteria at the source. Alcohol free, it’s also safe to use on delicates such as silk, linen, cashmere, and fine knitwear.
My bottle arrived this week and it’s been lovely to mist onto clothing and bedding, especially during this hot weather.
Curzon Classic Membership
If you’re fond of film and have a Curzon near you, then their classic membership is worth knowing about. For £70 annually you receive 5 ‘free’ tickets, 20% discount for a guest, 10% off food and drink and the option to buy further bundles of 5 tickets for just £65 if you run out. I love a little solo cinema date on a weekday off when it’s quieter, so future me will be thankful for these pre-paid treats!
An opinionated guide to London Pubs
Lord knows I love a Hoxton Mini Press opinionated guide and my most recent acquisition is London Pubs. Full of old ones, with stacks of character, just the way I like them (see all my personal faves in this edit) I can see this becoming my new date-night directory!
A very good design store
Hold in Brighton. Home of Lagom Design (who create those lovely, teeny, brightly coloured greetings cards with text, know the ones?!) Here they have the biggest selection you’ve ever seen, but that’s not all. There are SO many great brands and products in this shop, it’s a VERY good place to go gift shopping!

Things I learned from client conversations this month
The Lazy Flea - is a curated vintage market in West London, bringing together unique homeware, fashion, furniture, and jewellery. Popping up at Chiswick House, Fulham Pier and on the occasion my guest told me about - Teddington’s stunning Normansfield Theatre which I had absolutely no idea existed - (how?!!!)
Ladbroke Hall - Gallery, garden, restaurant, event space - stop by for live music, a screening, talks, exhibitions, lunch or a drink on the patio or dinner at Pollini
Inver - One of my guests celebrated a special birthday here, a restaurant (with rooms) on the shores of Loch Fyne. Diners can book to stay the night in an en-suite bothie or shepherd’s hut, it looks idyllic.
Barbican Conservatory - I had no idea you can book a visit here! The second biggest conservatory in London and a hidden, tropical oasis. Admission is free. Tickets for the Conservatory are released one month in advance online, plus a limited number of day tickets are released for online booking from 9:30am each day that the conservatory is open. Join the waiting list to be notified of future dates.
Bisou Balm by VIOLETTE_FR - One of things I see a lot, is a slick of lip colour being applied at the end of a hair appointment, the finishing touch to a transformation, the cherry on the top! One of my guests whipped out this hydrating balm with a hint of sheer, matte colour, for an enhanced, natural lip and it looked SO good on her that I had to share it. If you want to test the colours in real life, it’s stocked at Liberty and Oh my cream!
roam. radar . . . .
Have you heard of the National Garden Scheme? I explored the gardens at Petersham House a few years ago (adjacent to the nurseries) on one of their NGS days and it was beautiful. The scheme gives visitors unique access to over 3,300 exceptional private gardens in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, and raises impressive amounts of money for nursing and health charities through admissions, teas and cake. You can use their website or app to view garden openings by date, or postcode, as well special events and pop-up openings.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you discovered something new! Hx
